Will They Ever Release Ligers Into The Wild?

Will they?

I hope not, they are a man made species and shouldn’t be bred period. I think that would be similar to introducing a forein species into an unfamiliar area, you have no idea how it would affect the native ecosystem.

    i dont think so
ive heard they weigh too much, and they are very innefective animals- they would starve to death, or get killed. they weigh too much, and arent strong enough, it would be cruel to them releasing them because they arent self-sustainable(if im wrong please correct me) something like that

No. Ligers are a hybrid, and not a natural one. Lions and tigers did, at one point, overlap throughout the Asiatic range of the lion (which is now restricted to the Gir Forest in India). They did not interbreed, though, and so the liger is not a species with a natural habitat to be released into.

I don’t think they will because I heard that they haven’t got any camoflage to hide from enemies and prey so they will end up being eaten or starving to death…but you never know the human kind are strange species =/ lol and they may release them into the wild..xx

Not to offend them or anything, but Ligers are a mistake made from lion/tiger species living together in the same exhibit in a zoo.

no there 2 slow to hunt any thing. they wont find any food

No they won’t. There is now a law against creating them.
Even if they did, the species would die out after only one generation, as ligers are always infertile and cannot produce more ligers.

Hopefully not..these animals do not belong in the wild..they are not a natural species, they are man-made and would not fill any niche in the ecosystem.

I doubt it. It’d be hard for a hybrid species to find its ecological niche and it’d likely be hard for a liger to be accepted by either tigers or lions. Also, it is usually the goal of conservationalist to return natural areas to their original state. “Non-native” species are generally construed as a bad thing in the natural world.

It is you who are way off base. there is *zero* chance for there to ever be a naturally occuring liger. They are man-made.
    Different species
    Different habitats

Ligers cannot be born in the wild…. lions live Africa and Tigers live in Asia. Though there are a few facilities and areas of Asia that house them together, even then, still not wild.
As far as releasing them into the wild. God I hope not! Those poor things are genetic freaks that have too many problems as is.

    No.
Most ligers are actually bred by accident, as zoos and breeders typically look down on cross-breading panthera big cats. Also, if they did get in the wild, they have no chance to produce offspring as they are all sterile.

Okay, I do believe that at this moment the liger shouldn’t be released into the wild because they don’t have the hunting skills necessary, they have alot of genetic defects, and they cannot breed. Now, I do feel that in the next 25-50 years we can create a strong liger that has zero to none genetic defects, can live in the wild and breed. They would have to decide on where they could be bred, exercise newer generations to get the strong bones they need, teach them how to hunt, and locate the genetic defects and destroy them. For the breeding, this is a tough one. What i could see them doing is starting out with cloning. See if they could dna from a male liger strip the dna from the egg of a femal liger, and implant the males dna into it and see if the egg takes. THis could work because only males are sterile. Now don’t be mad at me because i do not think breeding tigers and lions are smart because the result is a bigger weaker combo of the two and they aren’t natural to any land, but with the right help from us, we can officialy create a species, but only release them into the wild if we are certain they could survive. THat might never happen though but it would be interesting to see what plays out.
