What Type Of Training Do Zoologist Need To Study Ligers?

I hate to say it and it might sound rude, but any self respecting zoologist who really cares for animals would have nothing to do with ligers. Why? It is rather simple really, ligers are nothing but poor creatures that are bred out of human ignorance and greed. Because of their breeding they are left with horrid genetic problems and usually do not survive too long. There is a reason you do not see them in respected zoo or that there is any SSP (species survival plan) or conservation around them. They are just something that is not supposed to be.
However, if you like ligers my guess is that you are a big cat fan in general. If that is the case and that is where you passion rests what you will want to do is study zoology and biological based science classes in college. You will also run into math classes as well. It might seem odd but math can be very common in zoology due to keeping stats and studies.
Sadly, due to the exotic pet trade in the US there are tons of cats that need care. On the plus side for you that leaves many big cat rescue centers that you can volunteer or work at to gain experience. Something that most zoology based jobs require.
You can also call your local zoo and look into volunteer or seasonal work that could give you experience and knowledge. Many zoos also work with conservation programs around the world that deal in cat conservation so that can help to get your foot in the door too.
Good luck and stay away from poor ligers.

  1. The Cheshire Had this To Say

First, they need to become extremely familiar with the biology of a lion. Then, they need to become extremely familiar with the biology of a tiger. Next, it would be ideal to watch these animals in their natural habitat for awhile so that the observations of particular tendencies may occur. Lastly, they may want to watch the movie Napolean Dynamite just incase they are not sure of what one may look like.
