   There is no magic number.
   It is not a matter of genetic distance as much as it is number of chromosomes, and other pre- and post-zygotic barriers.
   Given that we are all very genetically close (by the numbers at least) it will be interesting to see what the future brings in the way of hybridization of animals (plants have already been messed with A TON).

   Chimpanzees and humans are about 99%. No hybridizing yet…But stem cell research gives some people hope..

   they have to have the same exact amount in common. That’s why humans can only mate with humans,and dogs with dogs.cats with cats etc…
