Duma (2005)?
IMDb synopsis:
A young South African boy, Xan (Alex Michaeletos), brings up an orphaned cheetah, Duma, to the day when his father (Campbell Scott) decides it is perilously close to the time when Duma couldn’t survive in the wild. About the time they are to return Duma to his world, his father dies and leaves Xan and his mother with a big ranch to tend. Eventually, they have to move to the city, which is not a suitable place for a cheetah.

Ted and Susan Johnson (Keith Coogan and Lucy Deakins), spending six months in Kenya with their scientist parents, Earl and Jean (Timothy Landfield and Breon Gorman) adopt a cheetah, only to realize that they must set it loose so that it can learn to hunt and be free. However, when the animal is captured by poachers planning to race it against greyhounds, the two city kids, together with a young African goatherder they befriended, head off into the wild to rescue the cheetah.
