What is a Tigon
A tigon is the result of cross breeding a male tiger with a female lion. This does not occur in the wild because of the territorial differences of the two cats but breeding between the two cats does occur. When mixed in captivity breeding will naturally happen and the resulting offspring will be a tigon. There is no scientific name assigned to this animal although both parents are members of genus Panthera. It’s not a natural creature, according to science, but I believe it should be assigned a name.
During the 1800’s there were more tigons than ligers (the mix of a male lion and a female tiger)Â but that trend has turned around and tigons are not as plentiful today. There is currently breeding going on in China as you can see from the recent post about the four cubs born there in May of 2006. The pictures are awesome.
Tigons and Ligers are fabulous! They immediately became my favorite animal as soon as I saw and heard of them. And yay. Animals(tigers and Lions) are finally breaking the line. It’s hybrid time!!
I L-U-V ligers & tigons. Does this mean that Lions & Tigers could be closer than geneticists believe.

Tigers and Tigons have always been my avorite animals when they became one. Tigers on the other hand have always been a favorite of mine so when i found out that they breed tigers and lions and the cubs became ligers and tigons i was amazed.
I want to see the tigon.. and the Ti-liger and the Li-tigon. i feel cheated.

Where can you see these magnificent animals in the USA ?
I think Hybrinding animals is wrong….if they didn’t do it on their own they obviously didn’t want to and humans breeding them is horrible. They are two different breeds it’s like making a wolf and a fox breed. If they didn’t do it in nature why should we make them. What if you had to breed with someone you didn’t want to but these people you didn’t know forced you too….it’s inhumain and just wrong.
The diffs between tigons and ligers are surprising. Tigons are overall well proportioned, though sometimes smaller than the parents. Ligers have the biggest zygomatic arches I’ve seen on any animal - they have a distinct distortion there to to giantism.
ligers and tigons, Wow! they rock!!! I would really like to see them in action. In the wild of course. At least seeing them how they will survive on their own. May be few more months? That will be awesome.
i think they are unique but both tiger and ligons shouldnt be breed because this is not natruelly
