A mix between a male lion and female tiger. A male tiger and female lion mix is called a tigon. They are not a new breed because in order to be a species, you must have the ability to produce fertile offspring which I don’t think they can do. They also are usually sickly there whole lives.
A liger is what you get when a tiger and a lion reproduce with one another in captivity. Tigers and lions are similar in size and are both of the Big Cat family, so they are genetically similar enough to produce offspring with one another. However, ligers are never found in the wild because tigers live in India and Asia whereas lions are found in Africa (so they can only meet and breed in zoos and other human establishments). I think scientists breed ligers in order to conduct research on how closely related two separate species are (for example, a mule is what you get from breeding a horse with a donkey). the only other thing I know about ligers is that they can grow to be MUCH larger than either a tiger or a lion, and that their coloration and appearance varies (they can have stripes and manes, etc)
Dylan C is correct. Ligers and Tigons are real animals which result from mating a lion and a tiger, but they are rare. It happens occasionally in zoos, and in the wild. They are also infertile, and cannot reproduce, so they are not a new breed. They are hybrids, just like mules, which result from mating a horse and a donkey, and are infertile. But it is easier to get horses and donkeys to mate. Since they are tame animals, they can also be bred by artifical insemination.
The offspring that results when you breed a male lion with a female tiger.
I can best explain it is by showing you one.

Incredible giants!
A cross between a lion and a tiger.
Ligers are a cross between a MALE lion and a FEMALE tiger. Tigons are male tigers with female lions.
Ligers grow to be twice the weight and size of a normal tiger and lion. They appear light in color and have some patterns.
Ligers grow up to 700 lbs and Tigons grow up to 400 lbs.
Only female ligers and tigons are fertile, and male ligers and tigers aren’t. So they cannot reproduce with each other. The female can only reproduce with another male lion or tiger.
I thought they were a cross between lions and tigers.
EDIT: Found something on wikipedia.org but do not know how credible it is though…
they’re what i believe to be a fake animal, a cros between a lion and a tiger. Napoleon Dynamite, the movie, is whr its from.
