Usain Bolt Can Outrun Most Predators In The Wild?

Filed in Category Cheetahs

Lion, tiger, leopard run at 25mph. Usain just broke the 200m record at 19.19 seconds. That calculate out to be 28mph. So he can outrun most predators in the wild except for the cheetah. This is unbelievable isn’t it? but cheetah is smaller so Usain can fight them off with a stick. Unlike the rest of us, he can actually survive in the wild.

It is not possible for human to outrun animals. This is like asking if Michael Phelps can outswim a shark. He might be the fastest on two legs but these predators have four legs. So unless these predators get on two legs then chase him, otherwise he is doomed.

The animals can generally keep up their speeds longer than he can, and do so in rougher conditions.
Though something like the cheetah can actually run faster, its speed is limited to a shorter burst, so with an adequate head start, it’s the cheetah he’d actually be able to outrun, assuming he can keep up a semi-decent pace.
The others would likely catch him eventually, even if he had a head start. And they’d also tend to hunt in groups, just like they do with faster animals in the wild. He’d be rapidly cornered or outflanked.
And for what it’s worth, human survival in “the wild” is more dependent on the brain and smarts than speed. That’s the advantage humans evolved. We’re the only animals who can start and contain fires, just for starters, and the only ones who can really customize weapons, etc., etc.

Uh…anyone that takes a basic 3 day survival course can actually survive in the wild as can most boy scouts. A big cat can kill ANY man not well armed or smart enough to avoid it. And a Lioness will chase down prey for miles, not meters, and they hunt in packs and use group tactics. Knowing this, the escape strategy is to find water and swim for it or make fire to drive them off. Usain Bolt would be taken down after outdistancing the predator for the first 200M.
However, a boy scout/cub scout/ kid playing with matches/ anyone with a bic lighter setting a fire upwind of predators in the tinderbox of the African grassy plains would drive ANY predator away and create a massive signal fire at the same time.
In primitive times, fire brought man to the top of the food chain.

Yes, he can but he doesn’t have to because most predators will ignore a human. Predators will stick to their usual preys. Unless he happen to stumble upon a mother lion who guarding her cubs or just startling a predator unintentionally. His problems will be finding food and survive the weather rather than running from predators.

is that a question? no way he could survive in the wild, he could run faster than most predators on a perfectly flat track, but only for 19.19 seconds. then the predator keeps running and bites his head off. besides we dont know how fast most predators CAN run, just what they DO run. just about any big cat would catch him and eat him pretty quick. not to mention he would be on rough, uneven ground with tall thick grass. now bear grylls, he could make a shelter in the wild in 19.19 seconds that usain could run into and hide from the big scary cat.

I look it up and the stats are right but if you watch National Geography on TV, you should notice that lions don’t hunt alone. They hunt in pack. So it is Bolt vs the whole lion pride and that is bad new for Usain. One will chase him in the direction of another one who hide in the tall grass and will leap upon him when he run by…

He might have a chance in Africa in an open field but tiger live in a jungle. I had been to a jungle on a safari tour before and it is full of tree grow closely to each others. If he run that fast in a jungle, he will trip over something or he will run into trees and at 28mph he will get a concussion.

You are underestimating Usain Bolt. Homosapien is at the top of the food chain, not at the bottom. A man will use his brain to make weapons and hunt these animal down for food. For example, he can dig a ditch, put sharp branches that he sharpen with a rock in the bottom of the ditch and camouflage it, stupid animals will fall and die. There are many other ways. It is them that have to run away from him.

Most people don’t look up. People look forward, backward, sideways but we rarely look up. That will be the demise of Usain. He can not survive a leopard attack. Leopard hide in trees and will jump down on you when you walk by without any warning. He won’t be able to run very fast with a 150lbs cat on his back biting him.

That sounds good, but in real life Bolt can not run that fast.
On a track with spike shoes, he might out run predators, but on rough ground he is lunch.
In spite of being bigger than a cheetah he does not want to fight them off with a stick.
They have long claws and big teeth.
Surviving in the wild is much more than running fast.

It is futile trying to run from a predator such as a lion because their endurance is superior to his. His best bet would be trying to camouflage so they can’t see him or climb a tree.

After his 200 meter race he said on german television that he was tired and that he could have run faster!
    UNBELIEVABLE!

If that the case then how come lions can catch animals like antelopes and impalas that can run 45mph+? Predators sneak up on their preys, they don’t outrun them.

I think Usain would run even faster than he normally does if he was being chased by a vicious animal.

He has to sleep sometimes. They will get him when he take a nap or when he try to drink water at a water hole.

If he was stranded in the jungle, he wouldn’t be able to get his roids. He’d be toast.

yeah and the scary thing is that he isn’t even in his prime yet

  18. Dave87gn on October 13, 2009 12:20 AM

Lions tigers and leopards do not run that slow
and besides, even if they did, they arent on performance enhancing drugs
    and BOLT IS
