The couple gave birth naturally to four ligers, two males and two females, on March 23, 2006, and now they have a total of six children survived, a twins and quadruplets since they lived together in captivity in 2004. Liger is a rare lion-tiger mix which normally has a short life expectancy.

  2. awwwwwwwwwwwwww, they are so cute please keep posting more pictures . they look so cute but don’t force them to breed just because u want to do it for science they need to mix on their own . if u keep forcing them to breed then were not gonna be here and the food chain will collapce and we’ll be doomed try sayin to them when you do “i just destroyed the web of life please fogive me” i still like the pictures but try to let them breed by there selfs. and i like big cats when they breed BY THERE SELFS >:p

  3. they are so cute and they look like my cats but let them breed on there own so the food chain won’t be destroyed. cats should breed by there selves . it is crulety to animals and should have there own relation ships . don’t do it for just SCIENCE . but the cubs are cute and leave them alone :P

  9. Soooooooooo adorable!!!!!!!! I love Lions so much and I love Tigers. Ligers are the the cutest big cats I’ve ever known. I hope that they’re still living a happy life now in 2007!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Male lions have been documented to kill young so as to have the female reproduce again, why does this male lion not attack the young ligers in the photo?

  11. Paige Lovitt Says:

Did the tiger mate with the lion?

  12. I know this is crazy, but it would but cool to caputure and impregnat multiple wild female tigers w/ lion semen, and then release Them. The resulting liger would grow up in the wild, and become independent wild animals, making for great study. Would they hunt in packs? Would grow to hunt larger prey such as elephant, hippo or rhino? And what if by some chance, they managed to reproduce on thier own? Would we have the new “kings of the jungle” on our hands?

  13. Iv’e read that female ligers are fertille and can mate with either lions or tiger. What about the males? Are they fertille? and if so, could “pure liger” offspring be produced? please email a response.

  14. Leonore Martinez Says:

I never thought that you could breed tigers and lions… The ligers are pretty big! Bigger than a tiger or a lion. Well bye.

  15. Kayla Jones Says:

The picture with the baby liger and the tiger is beautiful. Someday I wish to see and pet an actual tiger or a liger tigers has been my all time favorite animal since i was a kid. Would you know anywere i could go to see an actual liger at or do they have them at the Washington zoo because i go there sometimes in the summer. thank you and type me back at krjonezy@yahoo.com thank you

  16. such a beautiful story but so sad they have a short life span. one of the greatest things i’ve seen since my son was born last year and hope they continue the cross breeding…:)

  17. How adorable!! I think these baby ligers are so cute…I hope they live as long as their parents and live to be parents themselves…

  18. ligers cubs are so cute.

  19. liger is stoopid Says:

Liger, Lions and Tigers have few cubs due to the low survival rate in the wild. It is abnormal for a Tigress to have more than 2 cubs.

Thanks for a good giggle, that was the stupidest question I’ve heard for a long time.

  20. Hope Latoni Says:

If it is a hybrid, can a liger breed with another liger?

  21. what would happen if u cross bred a tigon and a liger?

  22. wow!! Finally i see how liger cubs look like!! they r soo ute :)

  23. these liger cubs look so cute but how vicious are they do you know.

  24. Ligers are a waste of valuable resources.
What point is there to them? Conservation is a serious issue and cross breeding animals is just ignorant and mad.
These animals should be breeding with their own species, helping to protect the plight of their demise.
Hybridised cats are nothing more than entertainment which in itself is disgusting, animals should be respected, not made into circus freaks.
Then there is the serious issue that these cats could have serious genetic mutations due to the fact they are not supposed to breed.
I hope this raises awarness and people think before they call them ‘ cute ‘

  25. audrey hutchinson Says:

they r so cute!!!!! they don’t even look mean!!! they the cutest thing that i have ever seen!! i wish that i could pet them!! i love ligers!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. the point of these animals is to prove to the world that any animal can survive despite the worst conditions. These great beasts have defied all odd and have survived in the environment that we have completly trashed. Thats why ligers are so important

  27. Janey Sullivan Says:

I was in a cage with these beautiful things, and I got in on the list to feed and adopt all the animals. It’s fun and it only cost 1 dollar to join- and that’s what I did- the memories , though, are going to last a lifetime.

  28. scaredanon Says:

no offense or anything but this animal is freaky it wasnt meant to be created!!!

  29. awwwwwwwwwwww they’re soooooooo cute!!!!!!!!!!

  30. jessica devenger Says:

i really like tese pictures it makes me want to take one home it also makes me want to learn more

  31. “Male lions have been documented to kill young so as to have the female reproduce again, why does this male lion not attack the young ligers in the photo?”

When a male lion does that, isn’t he usually killing another male lion’s cubs so as to have the female reproduce again and have his cubs instead? No wonder this male lion isn’t attacking the young ligers, they’re already his cubs!

  32. Flameleaf Says:

i luv ligers they’re adorable. y don’t we just call ligers and tigons teh same thing? thanx so much for puttin these pics on the web.
