this is an experiment for a research paper. your help is greatly appreciated. I am attemptempting to get intelligent responses with peoples feelings on the crossbreeding of tigers with lions. commonly known as the liger/tigon. thanks for your help

    I do not think it’s a good idea. Lions and tigers are endangered and all efforts should be put toward preserving both species by enlarging the gene pool, not creating new species.

    I read that scientists have been able to get a better understanding of feline genetics and evolution through these experiments. I saw on Animal Planet a Liger (I think) that was 12 feet long because the growth genes were being expressed in such a way that hasn’t been on a big cat since sabre-toothed tigers.

    So from a scientific standpoint we can learn quite a bit about DNA, gene expression and our own evolution but only as long as the animals are well treated which unfortunately doesn’t always happen.

    This is NOT a good idea as it weakens the genetics. The same problem (only worse) comes from breeding White Tigers.
