The liger is a hybrid cross between a male lion and a female tiger. It is denoted scientifically as Panthera tigris × Panthera leo. A liger resembles a lion with diffused stripes. They are the largest cats in the world, although the Siberian Tiger is the largest pure sub-species. Like tigers, but unlike lions, ligers enjoy swimming. A similar hybrid, the offspring of a male tiger and a female lion is called a tigon.
Rare reports have been made of tigresses mating with lions in the wild. Under exceptional circumstances it has been known for a tiger to be forced into ranges inhabited by the Asiatic Lion, Panthera leo persica; however, this combination of species in the wild is considered highly unlikely. The present-day ranges of wild lions and tigers no longer overlap.
As a result of accidental breeding in a wildlife habitat in flordia they have a liger named hercules that stands around 10 feets tall and is expected to reach 12 feet in length by maturity. Along with purely accidental breeding of the animals own desire, they can be created thru invetro fertilization.
most practical way is just to – you know – just do it…
but there are ways like in-vitro fertilization where they just get the daddy lion’s sperm and get the mommy tiger’s egg and just put it back inside where it could develop into a baby liger
well! they are just big cats so I guess ta old fashioned way
it is done by artificial insemination.
now to explain that to him.
good question kiddo.
See when a boy lion and a girl tiger wuv each other very much…
They are only bred in captivity as they do not share the same habitats in the wild. Tigers are from Asia and Lions are from Africa.
There are places in asia where their ranges overlap, there are lions in asia. Most animals have perverted lusts and often try to mate with other animals. Like a dog on your leg. How do you explain that to your son? I don’t know.
