Is It Etical To Create Ligers?

Filed in Category Answers about Ligers

is this right to create a new type of animal only for human enjoyment, should we interfere with nature?

No it is not right. In the case of ligers there is no conservation or value in their life other than greedy man making a quick buck on a freak. On top of that ligers suffer greatly due to genetic issues from cross-breeding. Many do not even survive and those that do tend to have massive health issues.
If there was a hybrid that held value for saving a species or was conservation based that resulted in little to no health/breeding issues then it might be different.
But like I said, with ligers it is only out of human greed… to make a quick buck at the suffering of the animal. Do not get me wrong, I am sure there are some people out there that care for their ligers and give the best care possible… but the reason behind their birth is flat out wrong, be it money or just a “want”.

its no more or less ethical to create ligers than it is to continue to breed domesticated species of animals. both are created specifically for the enjoyment of mankind in one way or another. both would not benefeit any ecology they were placed into.
of course, the same thing could be said about human beings themselves. so the real question is not, “is it ethical?” but rather, “whos going to stop them?” the answer is “nobody”… either that or its not ethical.

If you have a problem with interfering with nature, I suggest you get a loincloth and a sharp stick (still a bit of interferance but let’s not go crazy) and get out of your house and into the food chain. If you can dig it or kill it, eat up. If you get killed, or starve, or freeze, or get sick, well that’s nature for you, death is a very natural thing.
