How many Leopards are there in the wild?

The Leopard is definitely the most abundant of the big cats, but exactly how many still remain in the wild? Please also provide a reference if possible.

Here is an article that state the Sub-Sahara population if Africa is estimated to be between 200,000 and 700,000.

There are also leopards populations in Asia,
3500 to 5000 in Sri Lanka.

Some of the Asian subspecies such as the Persian Leopard or Amur Leopard are endangered.
