How Many Asian Wild Dogs Can A Single Tiger Take On?

Filed in Category Tigers

I was wondering, up to how many Asian wild dogs can a solitary tiger kill. I hear that there are conflicts over prey between these species.

Asian wild dogs, or dholes, can be very aggressive and can live in large packs of 40 or more animals. Large packs like these have been recorded chasing tigers off their kills. However, dholes are much smaller than tigers – their maximum weight is around 44lb, compared to the 660lb of the tiger. If it came to a fight, I would expect a tiger to be able to kill at least 20 dholes without too much difficulty – one bite or blow of a paw from a tiger is enough to kill a dhole.
