Can The Tigers Still Take The Wild Card?

It won’t be easy, but I am still holding out hope.

basically the only chance that tigers make the wild card is if boston chokes and lose 1st place in AL east. so start rooting for red sox to lose!!! im rooting for yankees and tigers to win but hoping that red sox loses

I can only hope! After the heartbreaking loss to Cleveland last night, I’m not sure the Tigers (or more accurately, the bullpen) can make it to the playoffs.

I won’t give up hope until the last nail is in the coffin. Last night just about killed me, though. I have had a nagging depression all day and then I remember why. I still have hope, though. Just not as much of it as when they were up 5-2 last night!

NO, they’re just as out of the Wild Card they are out of their own Division.

  5. Look Away, I'm Hideous Had this To Say

Nope. Will go to the AL east. Either the Yanks or Bosox.

Georgie sorry nope the yankees are on a roll ther HOT

Sorry, but no. There are only about 11 games left and not enough time. The Tigers technically are 3 1/2 games behind the Yankees, but 4 back in the loss column. There’s no way the Yankees lose four more than the Tigers the rest of the way. Besides, any team that has the lead in their division at the break, then has to rely on other teams beating a rival, doesn’t deserve to get in, especially when they blow a 5-1 lead in a game they have to win. Man, that had to be devastating when Blake hit that ball out.

  8. Oz Had this To Say

Nope not this time. Yanks control it right now. I don’t see us giving it up.

If the Yankees can take the A.L. East, then yes.

I hope so, depsite the fact that most Yankees fans are so deluded and think everyone is rooting for them, I would like a team that didn’t buy their way in. I think Detroit has had a great season the whole way throug as well, were the Yankees just started playing a month ago.
I would like the Indians to clinch the division first though.

IF YOU GUYS WIN IT I HOPE IT’S AT THE EXPENSE OF THE BOSTON RED SOX.

Georgie, I’m rooting for you guys but I have to tell you, your chances are not looking good. There are only about 14 games left.

  14. boss bee - YANKEES FOREVER!!!! Had this To Say

You know what Georgie poo? If we get the division, I guess you can have the wild card. that would mean BOOSUX completely misses the playoffs! OH Happy Day!

  15. Tommy D Had this To Say

YES!!!! The Tigers need to beat out the Yankees! Beat the Evil Empire!

  16. sgoldper Had this To Say

Sure they CAN, although I wouldn’t be holding my breath. Had some injuries this year that just basically killed them. I think it is great that they are staying around so late. Not a Tigers fan, but a Leyland fan so still hoping for their success.

Don’t torture yourself. It ain’t happening. Good luck next year.

Tigers have no shot at the division. Saying Cleveland is famous for late season meltdowns coming from a Tigers fan whose team almost choked their way out of the playoffs last year is funny. Tigers simply have not gotten solid pitching and the Yankees are starting to get some timely pitching and now all of the sudden have a better bullpen than does Detroit.

  20. Joba Chamberlain Jr. Had this To Say

Sorry Georgie but I think it is too late. The Yankees are rolling and the Tigers aren’t doing their jobs. If I were you, I’d start preparing for next April. Sorry.

The Yankees are playing every game like it’s game 7 of the World Series…although it would be nice to have one year where the Yankees weren’t in the post-season I don’t think this is the year. Yes, I predicted that the Wild Card would come out of the Central and the Yankees would be golfing in October but the way they have played lately has definitely changed my mind.

As a fan of any team you have to hold out hope, you have to think that your team is going to pull through in the 23rd hour to make it in. In reality it is looking bad, the Tigers are up and down right now, the Yankees are flying right now so they are going to have to grind it out, they need to yank on the Indians and Casey Blake hurt their chances a lot yesterday. There is still a chance and since you are a true fan I am flad to see that you are not throwing in the towel. Anything can happen at the end of the year…ask long time Philles and Red Sox fans; they know all about falling flat in the last few weeks.

  23. #1 New York Yankees Fan Had this To Say

    *Hahahahahaha* No.
The Yankees need to play 4 games over .500 ball for the rest of the season to win the WC. Quite frankly NO!

  24. Frank P Had this To Say

Until they are mathmatically eliminated anything can happen. You never know.

  25. terse Had this To Say

No chance in hell. With all of the smack you talked about the Yankees, I am glad to see Detroit done for the season. With Verlander’s big choke giving up 4 home runs, the fork has been put in you. You’re done!

I watched the entire game last night. I’m hoping they will, but it does look like it’s Cleveland’s year this year.

  27. Sgt. Pepper the Cubs fan Had this To Say

Yeah, you always have a chance untill your elimination number reaches 0.

And I am still holding onto my lottery ticket for the 300 million dollar drawing…. but some things just won’t happen. My numbers won’t change -and the Tigers won’t all of a sudden be a winner.

  29. joe Had this To Say

i’m still holding onto hope as well. but blowing a 5-3 lead in the 8th and losing on a walkoff in extras is too much. get it together.

  30. Ginz Had this To Say

I do. Tonight’s the test…If they can stay focused…and not let that loss keep them rattled…

  31. Dan Had this To Say

Yes, both teams play against division rivals for the last games of the season. The Yanks play every team in their division besides the Red Sox. The Tigers, besides the Indians. One of those 3 game series is against the Minnesota Twins who you have just swept. I know KC can be swept along with Chicago (I am a Sox fan). I guess you’re going to need to hope that the D-Rays, O’s, and Blue Jays can win the series against the Yankees. But keep in mind that all of these teams want to play spoiler so they may try extra hard. So yes, but it will be difficult. It ain’t over till it’s over.
    And Don’t Stop Believing!!!!
    Who doesn’t like that song?
    Good luck to your Tigers!
    Better Detroit than New York!
