most likely it all has to do with the DNA i think if they have the same amount of chromosomes (which they do) they would be able to
It all depends on how strong the genetics is for each of the parents, the tiger, lion, tigon, and the liger…all have an important role in deciding whether the offspring will be fertile. That is the main reason why scientists take alot of time to decide which tiger and lion should be breed together!~Rachel
I cannot stand people who support liger and tigon ‘breeders’ I cannot stand the ‘breeders’ I cannot stand people, who even when they know the truth, continue to support these people. Look at these if you care.

There is no record of fertile males, so no. You cant ‘breed’ two ligers or two tigons together, nor a liger with a tigon.
No. Male ligers and tigons are always sterile. Females are sometimes fertile, but even if you had a fertile one you would not have a fertile male to breed her with. You CAN breed female ligers and tigons with male lions and tigers, though – this produces li-ligers, ti-ligers, li-tigons, and ti-tigons.
No. Male ligers and tigons are almost always sterile. Some females are fertile, but that’s of no value when there aren’t any fertile males to mate with. However, female ligers or tigons can be mated back to lions or tigers. The offspring are called ti-ligers, li-ligers, li-tigons, or ti-tigons.
