Are There Wild Jaguars In Illinois?
Filed in Category Jaguars
No, Jaguars are not native to that part of the US. There have been reports of wild Jaguars in some of the states bordering Mexico but not north of there.

There could be, due to irregular migration, but that is highly unlikely. Jaguars live in South America, and because there is no large body of water stopping them, they can migrate north, but I don’t see that happening any time soon.
There could also be jaguars that escaped from a zoo, or, more likely, someone owns a jaguar as part of a private exotic menagerie, and it could have escaped from there. Sadly, illegal exotic menageries exist all over the united states, harboring such endangered animals as asiatic bears, or even tigers. More often than not, such menageries are illegal, and abusive to the animals.
As rare as irregular migration, a legal exotic menagerie owner must have a license in order to make it legit, and must provide quality care for the animals they intend to take in.
