What digital camera lens would you recommend for taking close up photos of animals at the zoo?

What would be the best lens for taking close ups of lions and tigers at the zoo? I am currently using 70-300mm VR nikon and looking to take better quality shots. For some reason my images are being rejected reason being “too blurry when enlarged full size”
